These are largely incompatible Paradigms. Peace & Compassion has great appeal but the Might & Glory paradigm does not go away. In Christianity (which I am familiar with) we have the Crusades, the inquisition , the St Bartholomew’s day massacre, and various fundamentalist movements.

There probably similar events with other faiths but I am unfamiliar with the details.
